So much stuff in kitchen to explore - From Manasi

Discovering the kitchen in detail.
Tried to stand up for the first time taking support of the potato-onion stand, whcih still remains his favourite till date. He takes the stand all over the house now like pushing a car

Journey to south of India

We made this journey to southern part of India in June. This was Shaurya's first journey outside the state. He took his first flight from Mumbai to Bangalore on 1st June. We stayed in Bangalore that night and next day left for Salem to attend Sailaja's wedding. We had Yearcaud, Kodaikanal, Munnar, Ooty and Mysore on the itinerary. It was very nice till Munnar. We enjoyed the green surroundings and cool weather of hills. Away from pollution and noise. It was in Munnar that I and Manasi both got food poisoning. By the time we reached Ooty I was completely down with fever and vomiting. I took medical care in Ooty itself. Manasi was in a little better shape till now. We decided to leave for Bangalore the very next day. I was feeling much better the next day. But the poisoning was starting to affect Manasi now. As soon as we reached Bangalore Manasi was completely down. She was having severe stomach pains. We stayed in Bangalore for another 2 days. Manasi had to take medical care in Bangalore itself and when we got back to Mumbai she was admitted to hospital. She stayed in hospital for 2 days.It was very difficult time for Shaurya as well. Luckily we both were not sick at exactly the same time so there was either me or Manasi to look after Shaurya. It could have been worse for him.

Till Munnar it was very nice time that we spent. Shaurya would get into each hotel and would attack the telephone first. We had to disconnect telephones in all the hotels to avoid him calling random numbers. Kodaikanal was the best among the places we visited. Very beautiful and scenic. Shaurya used to get irritated sitting in the cab (Indica) that we had booked for the entire journey. The driver would play old hindi songs to make him sleep. It worked on some occasions but not all. Another big concern was to arrange for his milk and boiling water to sterilize his milk bottles. We were completely on the mercy of the hotels. Luckily all the hotels could arrange it. We would bother them about 5 times a day for milk and water.

It was a good break but got spoiled because of the sickness. It was a big litmus test for us as well to see if we can take Shaurya for such journeys or not. I am not sure about Manasi but i was very concerned at the start of the journey. But i guess it turned out OK. Some pictures of the trip:

Update after a long time

I have not written this blog for such a long time now. Shaurya is 15 months old now. There have been so many things that i should have put on this blog which i couldn't do. Shaurya got his single tooth about a month back and  got a pair of upper teeth just a few days back. Generally, the lower teeth also emerge in pair but he got only one tooth. I guess its because he had a tooth at the time of birth which disappeared later. Anyway, so he has these 3 teeth now which he wants to use a lot. When we ask him to kiss our cheek he would actually bite it. Today i saw him biting on an entire apple and could actually manage to peel off some of it. He also understands many words now. Some of them like lion, cat, scooter, mama, papa, hi-five, kissi, flying kiss etc., he associates with a particular sound or action. He many not know the meaning of many of these words as of now but he responds in a particular action or sound. He is very fond of mobile phones and laptop and does not miss any chance to use (misuse) them. Bowling seems to be a passion in development. He throws the ball very well, at good speed and bounce. Cartoons on TV like Krishna, Chotta Bheem and Tom & Jerry are his favourites and won't turn his eyes off them for anything. Another thing that he seems to be a big fan of is Salman Khan. He watches his songs like Dhinka Chicka and Character Dheela with lots of passion. He even shakes his legs. When told to dance he marches on the spot. We have this book for him with pictures and letters, both in English and Hindi. He doesn't understand the letters but he surely recognises some of the pictures like flower, sparrow, car and dog. He would point to them. While sitting in car he is most interested in the gears and steering wheel. He would also experiment with the buttons around.

Surely he is experiencing things and learning from them as well. Everything seems to be exciting to him which is a good thing. He is very active and won't sit quiet even for a moment. He is sleeping now otherwise i would not have been able to write this entry.

Love you baby...

Nothing else...

As Written on 16th Feb 2011
.

There is nothing more beautiful than his smile.
There is no better sound than his giggles.
There is nothing more satisfying than to feed him.
There is nothing more saddening than to see him cry.
There is nothing more difficult to leave him and go.
There is nothing more relaxing than to see him sleep peacefully.
There is nothing softer than his fingers on my face.
There is no better hug than he clinging on to me.
There is nothing more exciting than to see him grow up and learn.

Shaurya's Studio Photoshoot

On 1st of May 2011 we celebrated Shaurya's first birthday with those who could not come on 28th Apr 2011, as it was a working day for most. The same day we also decided to have a photoshoot for Shaurya in his new Birthday Dress that he is wearing in the photos below. Although, the time was scarce and the studio was pretty ordinary (one close to our home), i am happy that we could manage to do this. And the only reason is that we have got these wonderful snaps of Shaurya looking so handsome and so happy.

Shaurya's First birthday - 28th April 2011

It seems just yesterday when i took him in my arms for the first time. A small body with still face and absolutely no expression. Clad in just a towel he was looking at me and everything else around. Just looking and not really seeing anything. So delicate he was that i held him only for some moments before giving him back to the nurses. Remember those 4 days of being in the hospital and watching him sleep, cry and lie there just like that, still trying to familiarize with this new world that he had landed into.

A real life. A miracle. Yes, birth of a baby is such a miracle. A life that just comes alive from nowhere and starts growing every minute. Just because it happens everywhere and every minute we do not realize it. But you do realize when it happens to you and you are amazed and you cannot stop thinking - what is life?

That's what happened an year back when Shaurya was born. Many times when i look at him i think what is life. Who was he when he was not my son? Where was he? In which form? Where has he come from? And what does it mean for all of us to be related to each other in such a way? What's the purpose? And it makes you believe that childbirth can by no means be an ordinary event. It is a huge thing. It is Godly stuff. Not to be taken lightly in anyway.

Among all these thoughts i celebrated my son's first birthday. We purposely kept him awake till 12 midnight to cut the cake. He had to cut 2 cakes - one from me and Manasi and another one from Shaurya's Dadji and Dadiji. Shaurya's nani and mamu had also joined us in the celebrations. Shaurya cut the cake but not before tasting it with his little fingers. All of us blessed him for a good life ahead and wished all the very best for him in every sense. I shook his hand to blow the candle as he didn't know to blow it off using his mouth. Then myself and Manasi held the knife in his hands to cut the cake together. As per the rituals of modern day birthday celebration, Shaurya's face was painted with cream and cake, but to a limited extent. And then there were photographs all around (will share them in later posts). Shaurya was already sleepy and so we took him to sleep quickly after all this mania.

Next day we had kept pooja in house for everybody's welfare, specially Shaurya's. A Ganesh Pooja and Katha of Satya Narayan. Shaurya was hardly part of it but i guess the blessings would have reached him nevertheless. Shaurya was particularly interested in the stuff kept around, rather than the chants or the vidhis. Specially in the havan fire. The entire thing took around 3 to 4 hours to get over. Some more people had joined for the same. There was small lunch arranged for everybody.

Later in the evening we had visitor's from Manasi's bank. This time we had some kids as well. For this ocassion we had another cake ready to be cut. Again the cake cutting, celebrations, birthday song and photos. This was Shaurya's third cake. I am sure he is an expert by now.

And lastly Arvind, his wife and his 4 months old son, Atharva, visited us. Everytime i look at Atharva, i get amazed that kids are so small when they are born and Shaurya was too. Its only that now i have seen him grow for an year which such a pace that when i see a new born i cannot compare him to Shaurya. And then i see those old snaps of Shaurya when he was so small. And it leaves me amazed.

Sunday is again a big day for him when we would be celebrating his birthday for those who could not come on 28th. This will be on the large scale with families and friends. There would be one more cake to be cut but i am sure Shaurya will not face any problems now :)

I bless him for his entire life on this auspicious day of his first birthday for all the success, health and happiness and wish him all the best.

Love you baby...

Bonding

As Written on 23rd Jan 2011

Shaurya was 9 months old

Imagine you had a very hard day. Completely tired and exhausted of any sort of energy, you come back home. You know it’s over. Your battle field is way behind and at least for some time you have been given the privilege to be with yourself. You seek for the sofa and crash into its cushions to feel relaxed already. A few minutes pass and you are already far away from this world. Half awake and half asleep you enjoy the rare leisure. Very slowly you feel some very soft thing touching your foot. You ignore it assuming it to be just your imagination from the dreamworld. Slowly, that soft touch starts climbing on your leg. With huge effort you open your eyes halfway and look down.

Your son who saw you entering the house had crawled to you and now was seeking your attention. You can see it in his eyes. The softness of his fingers on your foot is magical. The smile on his face after seeing you is divine. Slowly he extends one of his arms upwards while still balancing himself on his left one. And you immediately know he wants you to take him in your arms.

Forgetting your tiredness, you lift him and hug him close to your heart. He smiles and the bond gets a bit stronger :)
