It seems just yesterday when i took him in my arms for the first time. A small body with still face and absolutely no expression. Clad in just a towel he was looking at me and everything else around. Just looking and not really seeing anything. So delicate he was that i held him only for some moments before giving him back to the nurses. Remember those 4 days of being in the hospital and watching him sleep, cry and lie there just like that, still trying to familiarize with this new world that he had landed into.
A real life. A miracle. Yes, birth of a baby is such a miracle. A life that just comes alive from nowhere and starts growing every minute. Just because it happens everywhere and every minute we do not realize it. But you do realize when it happens to you and you are amazed and you cannot stop thinking - what is life?
That's what happened an year back when Shaurya was born. Many times when i look at him i think what is life. Who was he when he was not my son? Where was he? In which form? Where has he come from? And what does it mean for all of us to be related to each other in such a way? What's the purpose? And it makes you believe that childbirth can by no means be an ordinary event. It is a huge thing. It is Godly stuff. Not to be taken lightly in anyway.
Among all these thoughts i celebrated my son's first birthday. We purposely kept him awake till 12 midnight to cut the cake. He had to cut 2 cakes - one from me and Manasi and another one from Shaurya's Dadji and Dadiji. Shaurya's nani and mamu had also joined us in the celebrations. Shaurya cut the cake but not before tasting it with his little fingers. All of us blessed him for a good life ahead and wished all the very best for him in every sense. I shook his hand to blow the candle as he didn't know to blow it off using his mouth. Then myself and Manasi held the knife in his hands to cut the cake together. As per the rituals of modern day birthday celebration, Shaurya's face was painted with cream and cake, but to a limited extent. And then there were photographs all around (will share them in later posts). Shaurya was already sleepy and so we took him to sleep quickly after all this mania.
Next day we had kept pooja in house for everybody's welfare, specially Shaurya's. A Ganesh Pooja and Katha of Satya Narayan. Shaurya was hardly part of it but i guess the blessings would have reached him nevertheless. Shaurya was particularly interested in the stuff kept around, rather than the chants or the vidhis. Specially in the havan fire. The entire thing took around 3 to 4 hours to get over. Some more people had joined for the same. There was small lunch arranged for everybody.
Later in the evening we had visitor's from Manasi's bank. This time we had some kids as well. For this ocassion we had another cake ready to be cut. Again the cake cutting, celebrations, birthday song and photos. This was Shaurya's third cake. I am sure he is an expert by now.
And lastly Arvind, his wife and his 4 months old son, Atharva, visited us. Everytime i look at Atharva, i get amazed that kids are so small when they are born and Shaurya was too. Its only that now i have seen him grow for an year which such a pace that when i see a new born i cannot compare him to Shaurya. And then i see those old snaps of Shaurya when he was so small. And it leaves me amazed.
Sunday is again a big day for him when we would be celebrating his birthday for those who could not come on 28th. This will be on the large scale with families and friends. There would be one more cake to be cut but i am sure Shaurya will not face any problems now :)
I bless him for his entire life on this auspicious day of his first birthday for all the success, health and happiness and wish him all the best.
Love you baby...

Bonding
As Written on 23rd Jan 2011
Shaurya was 9 months old
Imagine you had a very hard day. Completely tired and exhausted of any sort of energy, you come back home. You know it’s over. Your battle field is way behind and at least for some time you have been given the privilege to be with yourself. You seek for the sofa and crash into its cushions to feel relaxed already. A few minutes pass and you are already far away from this world. Half awake and half asleep you enjoy the rare leisure. Very slowly you feel some very soft thing touching your foot. You ignore it assuming it to be just your imagination from the dreamworld. Slowly, that soft touch starts climbing on your leg. With huge effort you open your eyes halfway and look down.
Your son who saw you entering the house had crawled to you and now was seeking your attention. You can see it in his eyes. The softness of his fingers on your foot is magical. The smile on his face after seeing you is divine. Slowly he extends one of his arms upwards while still balancing himself on his left one. And you immediately know he wants you to take him in your arms.
Forgetting your tiredness, you lift him and hug him close to your heart. He smiles and the bond gets a bit stronger :)

Rains had made the weather cool. Shaurya got his 1st full pant (rather joker pyjama), courtesy the rains. Shaurya saved a lot of our money as we never had to buy him woollens. He was born right at the peak of summer.....and lesser the clothes he had to wear......happier he used to be..........
